THE COMMON COLD VIRUS AND PROSTATE CANCERProstate cancer is the second largest cancer killer of western man, after lung cancer, causing 8,600 deaths annually in England alone. The common cold virus has been transformed into a weapon against one of the western world's most lethal forms of cancer .Scientists in the U.S. have succeeded in creating a mutant strain of the virus that targets and destroys prostate cancer cells . Studies in mice show that a single injection of the virus directly into the glands shrunk tumors dramatically within six weeks, without side effects. On average, tumors were reduced to a mere 16% of their original size. Human trials are due to start soon.
