INHERITING GENESHalf of a baby's genes come from its mother, via the ovum, and half come from its father, via the sperm. Each ovum and sperm contains a different "mix" of the parentsÍ genes, so each child inherits a different and unique selection of genetic information from that inherited by his siblings. Most of our individual mix of genes blends together, but some genes are dominant over their counterparts. In those cases, the dominant gene, say for brown eyes, will prevail over a recessive, such as the gene for blue eyes.--> return to menu / back ... (click) --> return to top of the page (click) |
