ORGAN REJECTIONRejection of a transplanted organ could soon be a thing of the past according to the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver, Colorado . A team led by Uwe Staerz claims to have developed a drug that can "turn off" the CD4 T-cells that cause rejection . The drug stops only the CD4 T-cells from functioning, leaving the body's immune system to work as nomal during the 7 weeks the drug is administered . Current anti-rejection drugs must be taken for the rest of the patient's life and impair the immune system.--> return to menu / back ... (click) --> return to top of the page (click) |
